You CAN Learn To Speak Italian

There are a number of misunderstandings about learning and studying Italian. As with most things, it all depends how much you really want to learn the Italian language. When learning any language it's like starting a diet or exercise program. You can get started and dig in or come up with a number of excuses why it's not possible. While many excuses might be convincing, if you really want to learn the Italian language, ignore the excuses.

A usual misconception is that Italian is harder than English to learn. Research has shown Italian is actually an easier language to learn than is English. When you begin learning Italian, relieve frustration by remembering that everybody was, at some time during their life, a beginner.

When you speak Italian, if you're worried about rolling your r's...please don't...a lot of Italians are not able to roll their r's properly either. You can learn to easily roll r's by placing the tongue on your mouth's roof close to the front and quavering your tongue. Another approach is to remember the Ruffles TV commercial that went "rrrrrrruffles have rrrrrrridges".

Use of the Internet can help you learn the Italian language. Online courses allow you to study on a personal schedule. If you think your time is limited, the quickest method of learning Italian is totally immersing yourself in the language environment. This would involve spending a couple weeks in Italy attending a language school. Not everyone has the time or money to do this. You would learn Italian most effectively this way, this being equal to a full year of study in college or high school. It would probably cost less than a normal vacation.
